New Mexico Bowl: BYU Cougars vs. UTEP Miners

The New Mexico Bowl 2010 matchup is one of only three bowl games that will pit the BYU Cougars against the UTEP Miners. The game where BYU Cougars will compete with UTEP Miners will be held at University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the University of New Mexico campus.

BYU accepted the invitation to the game a couple of weeks ago after completing a 6-6 regular season in which they came back from a dark 1-4 score after their first five games. The team was put back into the running for the Bowl by a new quarterback, Jake Heaps, as they finished 5-2 in their last seven games and gained Bowl eligibility by ending up with a .500 record.

The team they are going to compete with are another 6-6 team, UTEP, who had a failure in closing their year with five losses of their last six games. However, they have still held on to bowl eligibility. The Conference USA team played at New Mexico this last year and won, 38-20.

Who will become the winner in this showdown between the Mountain West and the Conference-USA, middle-of-the-pack teams nobody can tell. The popular opinion is that UTEP will walk away from the New Mexico Bowl victorious, but it’s a smoothly-matched game.
